Our Services

Counselling for What You're Going Through

Life doesn’t always give you a clear reason for why things feel so heavy. Sometimes it builds slowly. Sometimes it hits all at once. Whatever brought you here, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Anxiety Therapy

When worry takes over your day and "just relax" stopped being helpful a long time ago. Learn to quiet the noise and feel steady again.

Depression Therapy

Low energy, lost motivation, going through the motions. Therapy helps you reconnect with yourself and find a way back to feeling like you again.

Trauma Therapy

Past experiences don't have to run the show. Trauma-informed therapy helps you process what happened so it stops controlling how you feel today.

OCD Therapy

Intrusive thoughts, rituals, and the exhausting need for certainty. Specialized therapy can help you break the cycle and take back your time.

Grief & Loss Therapy

There's no right way to grieve and no timeline that makes it easier. Therapy gives you space to process loss at your own pace without judgment.

Relationship Therapy

Same arguments, growing distance, feeling like roommates instead of partners. Couples therapy helps you break the pattern and rebuild connection.

ADHD Therapy

Struggling with focus, follow-through, or emotional regulation isn't a character flaw. Therapy helps you work with your brain instead of against it.

Affordable Counselling

Quality mental health support should be accessible. Our supervised student intern program offers reduced-fee therapy for individuals in the Kingston community.

Family Therapy

When family dynamics feel strained, therapy creates a space where everyone can be heard. Work through conflict, strengthen communication, and rebuild trust together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not usually. OHIP covers mental health care delivered by physicians, which means psychiatrists (with a referral from your doctor) and some family doctors or Family Health Teams. It also covers therapy provided inside publicly funded settings like hospitals and community mental health programs. Counselling with a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Social Worker, or psychologist in private practice is not covered by OHIP. Most clients pay through extended health benefits from their employer, school, or a personal plan, or out of pocket. Sessions with a registered provider also qualify as a medical expense on your Canadian tax return.

In Kingston, Ontario, private counselling generally costs $140 to $250 per 50-minute session, depending on the therapist's designation and experience. At Cataraqui Counselling Clinic, individual sessions are $165 to $185, and couples and family sessions are $190 to $220. Our supervised student interns offer affordable counselling sessions at $80, with sliding-scale and pro bono spots available. Most extended health plans reimburse a portion of the fee, often 80 to 100 percent up to an annual maximum, so it is worth asking your insurer what your plan covers before your first session.

There is no single official list, but counselling is most often grouped into four formats: individual, couples, family, and group. Individual counselling is one-on-one work with a therapist. Couples counselling focuses on the relationship itself. Family counselling brings in parents, children, or other relatives. Group counselling brings together several people working through similar concerns. Within any of these formats, your therapist may draw on different approaches such as CBT, EMDR, or emotion-focused therapy, chosen based on what you are working through.
